Neurotoxic effects of aluminium exposure as a potential risk factor for Alzheimer's disease

Mangaldeep Dey et al.

Summary: Aluminium, one of the most widely distributed elements on Earth, has no critical biological functions in the human body, but its excessive exposure has attracted significant attention due to its potential neurotoxic effects. This review discusses the neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative events in the brain caused by aluminium exposure, including oxidative stress, apoptosis, inflammatory events, calcium dyshomeostasis, A beta deposition, and neurofibrillary tangle formation. Protective measures for preventing aluminium-induced neuronal dysregulations are also highlighted.

Luminescence of Agrotextiles Based on Red-Light-Emitting Organic Luminophore and Polypropylene Spunbond Enhances the Growth and Photosynthesis of Vegetable Plants

Robert Khramov et al.

Summary: The impact of a light-transforming covering on photosynthetic activity and growth processes in lettuce and white cabbage plants grown in a glass greenhouse was studied. Plants were covered with agrotextile, a polypropylene (PP) nonwoven spunbond coated with polylactide varnish containing a new organic luminophore (LUM), which absorbs sunlight mainly in the 460-560 nm region and efficiently reradiates it in the red spectral region with a maximum at 660 nm. The use of the agrotextile with LUM resulted in a significant increase in total aboveground biomass and photosynthesis rate, while the use of agrotextile with ABS, a non-luminescent chromophore, did not show a significant impact.
