Polyaspartic acid (PASP) is regarded as a kind of environmentally friendly and multifunctional polymer material, which possesses the property of biodegradation, chelation and dispersion. In this work, polyaspartic acid derivative such as GLY-PASP was synthesized and characterized by FTIR and H-1 NMR spectroscopic techniques. The performance of the synthesized polymer as corrosion inhibitor was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization and EIS techniques. The performance as a scale inhibitor was tested by complexometric titration with standard solution of EDTA. Finally, SEM and EDX were used as surface analysis tools to study the surface morphology of carbon steel alloy in the absence and presence of the inhibitor molecules. The maximum corrosion inhibition efficiency for GLY-PASP adduct reaches for 83.8% at 250 ppm, while its scale inhibition efficiency reaches 90.2% at 125 ppm dosage. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V.
