Nanosilver is one of the nanomaterials that has become extremely popular with the highest degree of commercialization because of its antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, antimicrobial properties etc. and enthused to take it up for the present study. Different concentrations of nanosilver fluids were prepared by adopting a simple, green and cost effective method which utilized tannic acid as both reducing and stabilizing agent. Controlling the size and shape of the silver nanoparticles by varying the ratio of metal salts to tannic acid in the reaction medium was explored. The colloidal suspensions of nanosilver particles in tannic acid were surprisingly stable for very long storage time at room temperature. Characterization of these samples was carried out through UV-Vis Spectroscopy for the optical properties, the average particle size and zeta potential by Dynamic light scattering (DLS), the surface morphology of the samples by Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and ultrasonic study at different temperatures. The novelty in this work is that it reports the correlation between SPR absorption band shifting in UV-Vis Spectra and ultrasonic studies supported by TEM and DLS studies which is almost rare in the literature. The obtained magnitude of ultrasonic velocity in nanosilver fluids might be a predictor of size of nanoparticles. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
