The impact of diabetes mellitus type 1 on male fertility: Systematic review and meta-analysis

Paolo Facondo et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that men with DM1 have a lower paternity rate, especially those with longer disease duration. The data on gonadal hormonal profile in DM1 men are heterogeneous, making it difficult to draw definitive conclusions. Meta-analysis indicates that men with DM1 have poorer sperm morphology, progressive motility, and a trend towards lower seminal volume compared to controls.

Ellagic acid nanoparticles attenuate oxidative stress and testicular damage in high fat Diet/Streptozotocin-Induced diabetic rats

Steve Harakeh et al.

Summary: The study compared the protective effects of ellagic acid nanoformulation (NEL), regular ellagic acid (EL), metformin (MET), and their combination on testicular damage induced by diabetes in rats. The results showed that NEL was more effective in preventing testicular damage and apoptosis caused by diabetes, and improving spermatogenesis. NEL is recommended as a treatment option for protecting against male testicular injury associated with diabetes.

Current Strategies for the Management of Painful Diabetic Neuropathy

Michael D. Staudt et al.

Summary: Painful diabetic neuropathy is a common complication of chronic diabetes, and pain control remains challenging and unmet needs exist. Anticonvulsants and antidepressants are first-line treatments, while the use of oral opioids is discouraged. Neuromodulation treatment methods also show potential.

Deep Learning Techniques for Diabetic Retinopathy Classification: A Survey

Mohammad Z. Atwany et al.

Summary: Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a degenerative disease caused by diabetes that leads to vision impairment. Early detection is crucial, but the manual diagnosis process is time-consuming. Deep learning algorithms have shown effectiveness in diagnosing DR. This paper reviews and analyzes the state-of-the-art deep learning methods for retinal fundus image classification and detection, discusses available datasets, and identifies research gaps and challenges.

Diabetic Nephropathy: Challenges in Pathogenesis, Diagnosis, and Treatment

Nur Samsu

Summary: Diabetic nephropathy is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease worldwide and diagnosis and treatment pose challenges, requiring additional therapeutic interventions. In addition to standard therapy, vitamin D receptor activators, incretin-related drugs, and therapies targeting inflammation may also be promising for preventing the progression of DN.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Risk of Type 2 Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease, and Stroke

Tiantian Zhu et al.

Summary: Genetically predicted PCOS showed no association with the risk of diabetes, coronary heart disease, or stroke, suggesting that PCOS itself does not increase the risk of these outcomes. The association between PCOS and cardiometabolic diseases may be explained by other features of PCOS such as obesity, elevated testosterone, and low sex hormone binding globulin. Efforts to prevent cardiometabolic complications in PCOS should target women with high-risk features rather than all women with PCOS.
