Summary: This paper investigates the financial interrelatedness across stock markets for the Gulf Cooperation Council countries during the period 2008-2019. The results suggest that while the equicorrelation among GCC stock markets is positive, it is very time-varying, impairing the benefits of portfolio diversification. Significant heterogeneity among GCC stock markets in the degree of spillovers over time strengthens understanding of the economic channels through which GCC equity markets are correlated.

The risk transmission of COVID-19 in the US stock market

Seungho Baek et al.

Summary: This study investigates the volatility transmission effects between the US stock market and COVID-19, finding that the volatility of the US stock market is influenced by both past shocks and past shocks of COVID-19. Furthermore, the death rate of COVID-19 has a positive impact on the volatility of the US stock market, while the recovered rate has a negative impact, with bad news affecting the current US stock market more significantly than good news. Fixed effect panel regression results support the existence of volatility spillover effects.
