Structure, Properties and Applications of Two-Dimensional Hexagonal Boron Nitride

Soumyabrata Roy et al.

Summary: Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) is a strong candidate for two-dimensional (2D) materials due to its exciting optoelectrical properties, combined with mechanical robustness, thermal stability, and chemical inertness. Various synthesis strategies for 2D h-BN, including chemical exfoliation, chemical, and physical vapor deposition, have been developed in recent years. The potential applications of h-BN structures in nanoelectronics, photonics, biomedical, anti-corrosion, and catalysis are described based on their extraordinary properties and stability.

Effect of homonuclear boron bonds in the adsorption of DNA nucleobases on boron nitride nanosheets

Alma Delia Ocotitla Munoz et al.

Summary: Quantum-mechanics calculations were performed within the density functional theory (DFT) scheme to analyze the interaction between DNA nucleobases and hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets. The results showed that pristine nanosheets exhibited a strong adsorption preference, while nanosheets with homonuclear boron bonds had even stronger interactions.

B12N12 nanocages with homonuclear bonds as a promising material in the removal/degradation of the insecticide imidacloprid

L. Palomino-Asencio et al.

Summary: The study proposes a method for capturing/degrading the insecticide imidacloprid using B12N12 nanocages with different numbers of homonuclear bonds, and analyzes their interactions and electronic properties through Density Functional Theory calculations. It is found that the nanocages can efficiently capture the insecticide through chemisorption, and provide a new way to degrade imidacloprid. Additionally, the nanocages have high polarity and adsorption capacity, making them suitable for removing the insecticide.

Improvement in mechanical properties in AlN-h-BN composites with high thermal conductivity

Zetan Liu et al.

Summary: The machinability of aluminum nitride-hexagonal boron nitride (AlN-h-BN) ceramics can be improved while maintaining high strength and thermal conductivity by incorporating up to 30 wt% BN as a secondary phase and using yttrium oxide as a sintering aid. The addition of sintering additives helps purify grain boundaries and enhance densification. The optimal BN content enhances flexural strength and fracture toughness of the composite ceramics.
