A study on the probabilistic quantification of heavy-truck crash risk under the influence of multi-factors

Muladilijiang Baikejuli et al.

Summary: The objective of this study is to analyze and quantify the impact of multi-factors on fatal crashes involving heavy trucks. The research findings show that most fatal crashes are caused by multiple risk factors occurring simultaneously, especially two or three contributing factors. The number of risk factors influences the crash risk, and the interaction between specific risk factors further increases the likelihood of a crash. Controlling individual risk factors is essential to minimize the overall crash risk.

Analyzing the safety impact of longer and heavier vehicles circulating in the European market

Jose Castillo-Manzano et al.

Summary: The study provides an econometric analysis of the potential impact of allowing megatrucks to circulate throughout the EU, showing that countries currently allowing megatrucks have lower traffic accident and fatality levels. Therefore, it is advisable to only allow circulation of such vehicles in countries with a certain level of maturity and demonstrated achievements in road safety.

Clinical use of STOP-BANG and ESS questionnaires in the evaluation of obstructive sleep apnoea-related risk factors for motor vehicle accidents among public transport drivers in Delhi, India

Susan K. Sebastian et al.

Summary: Daytime sleepiness is a major contributing factor to motor vehicle accidents among public transport drivers in Delhi. ESS and STOP-BANG questionnaires may serve as good screening tools for clinical evaluation of OSA. Community-based screening for OSA is necessary to identify public transport drivers at high risk of MVA.

Analysis of safety climate and individual factors affecting bus drivers? crash involvement using a two-level logit model

Xuesong Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that fleet-level safety climate and driver-level factors such as age, seniority, marital status, positive behavior, and driving anger influenced bus drivers' self-reported crash involvement. Ordinary violations, lapses, aggressive violations, and insomnia were the most influential variables, while psychological distress appeared to associate with high-frequency risky driving behavior and severity of driving anger.
