Renewable energy and economic growth: New insight from country risks

Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between renewable energy consumption and economic growth from various risk-based perspectives, finding that different types of risks have different threshold effects on this relationship. Specifically, political risks and composite risks exhibit a single threshold, while economic risks and financial risks show a double threshold.

African heritage sites threatened as sea-level rise accelerates

Michalis Vousdoukas et al.

Summary: Many African heritage sites are currently at risk from rising sea levels, which could more than triple under high emissions scenarios. Mitigating emissions can reduce the number of highly exposed sites. These findings highlight the urgent need for increased climate change adaptation for heritage sites in Africa, including governance, vulnerability assessments, monitoring, and protection strategies.

The impact of clean energy consumption on economic growth in China: Is environmental regulation a curse or a blessing?

En-Ze Wang et al.

Summary: Using a finite mixture model to estimate the production function, this research examines the interrelationships among environmental regulation, clean energy consumption, and economic growth. The findings show that environmental regulation enhances the positive impact of clean energy consumption on economic growth, while ignoring measurement error and misspecifying the production function can bias estimation results. Moreover, traditional frameworks may underestimate the significance of clean energy consumption's impact on economic growth compared to accounting for heterogeneity and using clean energy production data.

Long-run equilibrium relationship between energy consumption and CO2 emissions: a dynamic heterogeneous analysis on North Africa

Mohammed Musah et al.

Summary: This study focused on the relationship between energy consumption and CO2 emissions in North Africa, finding that energy consumption worsened environmental quality by increasing CO2 emissions. Urbanization and economic growth were also found to contribute to higher CO2 emissions in the region. The study revealed bidirectional causalities between energy consumption and CO2 emissions, urbanization and CO2 emissions, economic growth and CO2 emissions, as well as urbanization and energy consumption, with unidirectional causalities from economic growth to energy consumption and urbanization. The findings underscore the need for North African countries to transition to clean energy sources to achieve a low-carbon economy.

The Impact of Tourism and Financial Development on Energy Consumption and Carbon Dioxide Emission: Evidence from Post-communist Countries

Arletta Isaeva et al.

Summary: The study examines the causal relationship among energy consumption, carbon emission, financial development, and tourism in 12 post-communist countries from 1995 to 2014. The results show cointegration among variables and bi-directional causality in financial development-tourism and energy-emission nexuses. One-way causality is identified in cases of tourism-energy, tourism-CO2, finance-energy, and finance-CO2.
