URBAN VISIONS OF GLOBAL CLIMATE FINANCE: Dispossessive Mechanisms of Futuring in the Making of Groy

Summary: Recently, the concept of green, smart and climate-resilient cities has become the dominant idea in imagining the future of cities worldwide. Meanwhile, global climate finance (GCF) agendas have asserted themselves as the only viable pathway to achieve these future cities. In this paper, a document analysis of recent GCF reports is conducted to uncover the mechanisms of 'futuring' in agenda-setting and outline the imaginary model of a future city. The analysis explores how future visions of urban GCF initiatives shape the cities of today, enabling a sustained critique of this future and a reconsideration of the present.
