Spatial differentiation of the impact of transport accessibility on the multidimensional poverty of rural households in karst mountain areas

Changli Zhu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the characteristics of transport accessibility and multidimensional poverty of peasant households in karst mountain areas, finding that farmers with high accessibility were mainly located near roads, while farmers with low accessibility were mainly in areas without access roads or with poor road connections.

Understanding the modifiable areal unit problem and identifying appropriate spatial unit in jobs-housing balance and employment self-containment using big data

Xingang Zhou et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the effect of the modifiable areal unit problem (MAUP) on employment self-containment (ESC) and jobs-housing balance (JHB) using mobile positioning data from Shenzhen, China. It found that the average ESC increases with larger spatial areal units, and the relationship between JHB and ESC is amplified with spatial aggregation. Additionally, a 2 km grid is identified as the ideal spatial unit for analyzing ESC in Shenzhen, as it marks a turning point in ESC increase and decrease in coefficient of variation.

Understanding the modifiable areal unit problem in dockless bike sharing usage and exploring the interactive effects of built environment factors

Feng Gao et al.

Summary: This study examines the modifiable areal unit problem (MAUP) and interactive effects of built environment factors in dockless bike-sharing usage using the geographical detector method. The results show that most built environment variables are sensitive to spatial areal units. The study provides scientific basis for temporal rebalance strategy in China's innovative and high-density metropolis.

Rural poverty and mobility in China: A national-level survey

Pengjun Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper explores the relationship between rural poverty and mobility in China, finding that the mobility of the poverty group is notably lower than medium-income and wealthy groups, mainly due to factors such as low travel demands for living and jobs, low car ownership, unemployment, and regional remoteness. Higher mobility is significantly related to an increase in income for wealthy individuals in townships, but for the poor, higher mobility does not guarantee higher income, with poverty being more strongly correlated with factors such as low labor skills and lack of education.
