The role of proxy internet use in sequential pathways of digital exclusion: An empirical test of a conceptual model

Andraz Petrovcic et al.

Summary: Proxy internet use has been identified as a viable strategy for achieving tangible internet outcomes and overcoming digital exclusion. This study distinguishes between proxy users who perform online activities for others and users-by-proxy, for whom activities are performed, proposing a model to understand how proxy use and use-by-proxy mediate the effects of internet skills on internet uses and outcomes. The results show positive pathways between operational and creative skills, proxy use, internet uses, and outcomes, indicating the importance of framing proxy internet use within established models of digital exclusion.

Weiyin Hong et al.

Summary: This study investigates the drivers and inhibitors of Internet privacy concern by applying the Multidimensional Development Theory to the online environment. The research identifies significant factors under four dimensions and tests the model using data from an online survey of 2417 individuals in Hong Kong. The findings highlight the importance of various factors, such as familiarity with government legislation and Internet knowledge, in reducing Internet privacy concern, while factors like previous privacy invasion experience and information sensitivity increase privacy concern.
