Simulated proximity enhances perceptual and physiological responses to emotional facial expressions

Results from 39 independent samples with a total of 1303 participants showed strong evidence for the validity of conditioned pupil responses, with larger effects in aversive conditioning compared to appetitive conditioning. Response differentiation increased over the course of acquisition, with substantial effects found in both early and late response windows.
