How digital industries affect China's carbon emissions? Analysis of the direct and indirect structural effects

Jianda Wang et al.

Summary: The digital industry has had a significant impact on the Chinese economy, but it has also raised concerns about environmental effects. This study analyzes the production structure factors of the digital industry and their effects on China's carbon emissions. The results show that while the direct structural effects of the industry reduce carbon emissions, the indirect effects contribute to an increase. High-energy-consuming sectors are most affected by these structural changes. The study suggests implementing policies to address these issues.

The Impact of the Internet on Industrial Green Productivity: Evidence from China

Binbin Yu

Summary: This paper empirically investigates the impact and spatial spillover effect of Internet development on Industrial Green Total Factor Productivity (IGTFP) using the Dynamic Spatial Durbin Model (DSDM) and Chinese panel data. The results show that Internet development significantly promotes improvements to IGTFP in the region and surrounding areas, with the long-term effect being greater than the short-term effect. Mechanism tests indicate that Internet development can promote IGTFP through both industrial structure upgrading and technological innovation, with the intermediary effect of technological innovation being more significant. These research conclusions remain valid after conducting a series of robustness tests, providing empirical evidence for the implementation of the Internet+ action plan and the popularization and application of the industrial Internet in China.
