Analyzing vehicle-pedestrian interactions: Combining data cube structure and predictive collision risk estimation model

Byeongjoon Noh et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new concept of a pedestrian safety system that combines the field and the centralized processes. The system can warn of upcoming risks immediately in the field and improve the safety of risk-frequent areas by assessing the safety levels of roads without actual collisions. The proposed framework analyzes behavioral features in multi-dimensional perspectives by constructing a data cube structure, and it aims to support decision-makers and help understand proactive behavior near the crosswalks.

Interaction of automated driving systems with pedestrians: challenges, current solutions, and recommendations for eHMIs

Roja Ezzati Amini et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interaction between automated driving systems and pedestrians, emphasizing the behaviors and intentions of pedestrians on the road, their responses to stimuli, and factors influencing their decisions during interactions. Factors related to the communication environment, pedestrian characteristics, and existing communication methods have been found to play a significant role in pedestrians' decision-making processes.
