Reversible thermochromic POSS-Metal Films for early warning

Yaoyuan Xu et al.

Summary: The reversible thermochromic POSS-Metal Films (PMFs) demonstrate excellent thermal-stability and repeatability, and can rapidly change color as the temperature rises within a few seconds, providing a superior warning effect. The thermochromic mechanism of PMFs is elucidated through various tests, explaining the color change phenomenon.

Enhanced electromagnetic wave absorption of engineered epoxy nanocomposites with the assistance of polyaniline fillers

Jiang Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, polyaniline (PANI)/epoxy composites were reinforced with PANI-M to enhance their electromagnetic wave absorption performance and mechanical properties. The synergistic effect of PANI fillers with different geometries led to a significant improvement in reflection loss at high frequencies, as well as the mechanical properties. Characterization of the PANI fillers prepared by different methods revealed their structural and morphological properties, providing guidance for the preparation of advanced engineered epoxy nanocomposites.

Magnetic NiFe2O4/Polypyrrole nanocomposites with enhanced electromagnetic wave absorption

Jiang Guo et al.

Summary: NiFe2O4/polypyrrole nanocomposites demonstrate negative permittivity in the low frequency regions and significantly enhanced electromagnetic wave absorption property in the high frequency regions. The enhanced negative permittivity is observed in the nanocomposites with different NiFe2O4 loadings, indicating the formation of a metal-like electrical conducting network. The minimum reflection loss of -40.8 dB is achieved in the 40.0 wt% NiFe2O4/PPy composites with a thickness of 1.9 mm. The research work provides guidance for the fabrication of nanocomposites with excellent electromagnetic wave absorption.

Reversible Thermochromic Photonic Coatings with a Protective Topcoat

Weixin Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a temperature-responsive photonic coating was fabricated, showing a reversible color change from red to blue upon heating. The coating retains high transparency and fully reversible structural color changes. Adding a protective polysiloxane layer on top of the cholesteric layer effectively safeguards it from damage without affecting its optical properties.

A UV-shielding and hydrophobic graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets/cellulose nanofibril (gCNNS/CNF) transparent coating on wood surface for weathering resistance

Bingnan Yuan et al.

Summary: A UV-shielding, hydrophobic, and transparent coating with graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets (gCNNS) and cellulose nanofibril (CNF) was developed to improve the weathering resistance of wood materials. After accelerated weathering tests, the treated sample showed a significantly lower total color change compared to the untreated sample. These environmentally friendly and weathering resistant coatings are expected to be widely applied to various substrates in the future.

Y. Sasaki et al.

Summary: The study introduces a self-healing hybrid system composed of low molecular weight multifunctional silsesquioxane nanoparticles and cross-linked networks formed from non-covalent metal-ligand interactions. By tuning the dynamics and strength of the bonds, rapid self-healing and robust mechanical properties with ion conductivity were achieved. This molecular design strategy provides a versatile pathway for the production of self-healing hybrid materials with excellent mechanical properties.
