Influence of mass ratio and calcination temperature on physical and photoelectrochemical properties of ZnFe-layered double oxide/cobalt oxide heterojunction semiconductor for dye degradation applications

Yufei Zhang et al.

Summary: ZnFe-layered double oxide (LDO)/cobalt(II,III) oxide (Co3O4) composites were prepared by calcining Co loaded ZnFe-LDO obtained through hydrothermal and microwave hydrothermal methods. The composites exhibited a flower-like structure composed of Co(3)O(4) nanowires and ZnFe-LDO nanosheets. The ZnFe-LDO/Co3O4 composite showed a high degradation efficiency of 93.3% for methylene blue (MB) under visible light and 1.0 V voltage after 3 hours, indicating its potential for organic pollutant removal.

Solar Deicing Nanocoatings Adaptive to Overhead Power Lines

Yang Li et al.

Summary: In the frigid winter, the ice and snow accumulation on high-voltage overhead power lines can pose serious risks to the reliability of electric power transmission and telecommunication systems. This study presents a scalable solar-thermal icephobic nanocoating that can effectively remove ice or snow from cables, even on complex curved surfaces. The nanocoating consists of a titanium nitride nanoparticle layer for efficient solar-thermal conversion and dual-scale silica particles for water-repellent properties at low temperatures. It demonstrates effective deicing/defrosting on power lines at temperatures as low as -15 degrees C. The versatility and compatibility of this coating make passive solar-driven deicing technologies promising for practical applications on outdoor exposed surfaces.

A durable and photothermal superhydrophobic coating with entwinned CNTs-SiO2 hybrids for anti-icing applications

Fan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, carbon nanotubes were grafted by silica nanoparticles to prepare CNTs-SiO2 hybrids, which were then incorporated into an epoxy matrix to construct a superhydrophobic coating. The optimal ratio of CNTs to SiO2 was found to be 1:3, achieving the best hydrophobicity with a water contact angle of 159.3 degrees. The entwined CNTs-SiO2 hybrids not only enhanced water repellency and mechanical durability, but also showed excellent chemical stability under harsh conditions, significantly delaying water freezing time and efficiently melting ice under laser irradiation.
