Effect of febuxostat on left ventricular diastolic function in patients with asymptomatic hyperuricemia: a sub analysis of the PRIZE Study

Kenya Kusunose et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effect of febuxostat treatment on diastolic function in patients with asymptomatic hyperuricemia for 24 months. Results showed a significant increase in E/e' in the control group compared to the febuxostat group.

Association between serum urate level and carotid atherosclerosis: an insight from a post hoc analysis of the PRIZE randomised clinical trial

Atsushi Tanaka et al.

Summary: This analysis examined the association between changes in serum urate (SU) levels and carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) in patients with asymptomatic hyperuricaemia treated with febuxostat. The study found that a greater reduction in SU levels may be associated with delayed progression of carotid IMT.

Uric acid and cardiovascular disease: A clinical review

Yuichi Saito et al.

Summary: Uric acid, the end-product of purine metabolism, is not only a cause of gout, but also may play roles in developing cardiovascular diseases. Although the causal relationship of hyperuricemia to cardiovascular diseases remains controversial, there has been a growing interest in uric acid due to the increased prevalence of hyperuricemia worldwide. This review article summarizes current evidence concerning the relation between hyperuricemia and cardiovascular diseases.

Impact of in-hospital blood pressure variability on clinical outcomes in patients with symptomatic peripheral arterial disease

Masahiro Suzuki et al.

Summary: This study found that greater in-hospital systolic BP variability was associated with a higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular and limb events in patients with symptomatic PAD undergoing endovascular therapy. Factors such as the CV of systolic BP, age, hemodialysis, and atrial fibrillation were found to be correlated with the primary endpoint.
