Surface Water Quality Assessment and Contamination Source Identification Using Multivariate Statistical Techniques: A Case Study of the Nanxi River in the Taihu Watershed, China

Zhi-Min Zhang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the spatiotemporal variations in water quality for the Nanxi River in the Taihu watershed of China and identified potential sources of contamination using a water quality index (WQI) and multivariate statistical techniques. The results showed that most monitoring stations exhibited continuous improvement in water quality, and important parameters affecting spatial variations included pH, petroleum, volatile phenol, and others. Factor analysis identified four potential contamination source types.

Integrated Assessment of Surface Water Quality in Danube River Chilia Branch

Liliana Teodorof et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the water quality of the Chilia branch in the Danube Delta, showing a good ecological status with the exception of elevated total nitrogen levels in 2015. Most nutrient concentrations were low, with only a small percentage considered extreme. The CCME WQI method indicated that the majority of surface waters from the Chilia branch had excellent or good quality, with only a small percentage classified as fair quality.

Discussion on the existing methodology of entropy-weights in water quality indexing and proposal for a modification of the expected conflicts

Siddhant Dash et al.

Summary: The research proposes a novel method of entropy-weighted water quality index by integrating information entropy and water quality data, which is verified to be reliable and correct through a case study. The study found that all parameters contribute equally to the index value and the method considers both measured values and uncertainties for consistent water quality monitoring.
