Quantitative Comparison of the Light-to-Heat Conversion Efficiency in Nanomaterials Suitable for Photothermal Therapy

Agnieszka Pasciak et al.

Summary: Functional colloidal nanoparticles capable of converting between various energy types are widely used in applications such as cancer therapy. This study evaluated the light-to-heat conversion properties of 17 different nanoheaters and ranked them qualitatively. The results showed that considering only the light-to-heat conversion efficiency is not enough, and the absorption coefficient should also be taken into account.

Iron Speciation in Animal Tissues Using AC Magnetic Susceptibility Measurements: Quantification of Magnetic Nanoparticles, Ferritin, and Other Iron-Containing Species

Yilian Fernandez-Afonso et al.

Summary: This study utilized AC magnetic susceptibility measurements to analyze the impact of single intratumor administration of magnetic nanoparticles on different organs in an animal model, detailing the quantification of iron associated with the nanoparticles and the analysis of other endogenous iron-containing species. The technique allows for minimal tissue sample preparation, characterization of large amounts of tissue, tracking of nanoparticle transformations with high specificity, and achieving low limits of detection for certain iron-containing species.

Long-Term Fate of Magnetic Particles in Mice: A Comprehensive Study

Ivan Zelepukin et al.

Summary: Safe application of nanoparticles in medicine requires a full understanding of their pharmacokinetics and degradation in the organism. In this study, a magnetic spectral approach was used for in vivo monitoring of magnetic particle degradation, revealing the significant influence of parameters such as dose, size, surface coating, and internal architecture on the degradation process. These findings provide deeper insights into particle degradation in vivo, potentially facilitating the rational design of nano- and microparticles with predictable long-term fate in vivo.
