Application of BiFeO3 and Au/BiFeO3 decorated kaolinite nanocomposites as efficient photocatalyst for degradation of dye and electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction

Bulent Caglar et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the successful preparation of kaolinite-BiFeO3 photocatalyst with superior photocatalytic activity fitting pseudofirst-order kinetic. The enhanced photocatalytic activity is attributed to the kaolinite platform reducing recombination opportunities of photogenerated holes and electrons, increasing surface area, decreasing particle size, and reducing nanoparticle aggregation. A novel electrocatalytic platform based on Au/BiFeO3/kaolinite modified carbon paste electrode has also been designed, showing 15-fold current enhancement and 100 mV anodic potential shift compared to the bare carbon paste electrode.
