Diversidad taxonomica de Thomisidae (Araneae) en ambientes heterogeneos del sitio Ramsar Humedales Chaco, Argentina Taxonomic diversity of Thomisidae (Araneae) in heterogeneous environments of the Ramsar site Chaco Wetlands, Argentina

Helga Cecilia Achitte-Schmutzler et al.

Summary: The Ramsar site Chaco Wetlands is characterized by its environmental heterogeneity and high diversity of flora and fauna. This study examines the taxonomic diversity of Thomisidae spiders in different environments with varying degrees of plant complexity. The results show that the forested environments have low taxonomic diversity and high taxonomic variation, while the grasslands and palm groves have uniform representation of species in the phylogenetic tree. Degraded forests have a taxonomic structure closer to grassland and palm grove environments. These findings suggest that considering phylogenetic relationships is crucial for implementing management and conservation plans.

Tourist species bias estimates of extrapolated species density in dispersive taxa: a case study from a litter beetle assemblage in temperate woodland

Paul Eggleton et al.

Summary: This study found that extrapolative nonparametric estimators tend to overestimate species richness when applied to dispersive taxa. Therefore, caution should be taken when using these estimators for estimating actual species density of dispersive taxa in ecological studies.

Different land-use types equally impoverish but differentially preserve grassland species and functional traits of spider assemblages

Carolina M. Pinto et al.

Summary: Changes in land-use introduce environmental modifications that drive species loss and trait changes in spider assemblages. Different land-use types result in different species and trait compositions, leading to functional impoverishment compared to natural grasslands. Developing productive landscapes with a mosaic of land-use types could help mitigate biodiversity loss by providing microhabitats for species with varied requirements and conserving spider functions in mosaics.
