Sliding mode control for networked control systems: A brief survey

Weixiang Zhou et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been increasing attention on the control synthesis and analysis of networked control systems (NCSs), and many research contributions have been published. Sliding mode control (SMC) is an effective method to address uncertainties and nonlinear characteristics in NCSs due to its complete robustness on the sliding mode surface. This paper provides a review of the recent advances and challenges of SMC in NCSs, along with potential future research topics.

Incremental Model Predictive Control Exploiting Time-Delay Estimation for a Robot Manipulator

Yongchao Wang et al.

Summary: This article proposes a new incremental model predictive control strategy that allows for constrained control of a robot manipulator without a specific mathematical system model. The method approximates the continuous-time nonlinear system model using time-delay estimation and designs the tracking IMPC within the framework of MPC. The effectiveness of the method is verified through experiments.

Non-singular terminal sliding-mode control for a manipulator robot using a barrier Lyapunov function

David Cruz-Ortiz et al.

Summary: This study presents a robust finite-time controller design for trajectory tracking of robot manipulators with full-state constraints. The design incorporates a distributed state constraint non-singular terminal sliding mode (CNTSM) with a gain self-adapting tuning method to achieve finite-time convergence and accurate tracking while satisfying position and velocity constraints. A barrier Lyapunov function is used for finite-time stability analysis.

Model free adaptive control of the under-actuated robot manipulator with the chaotic dynamics

Onder Tutsoy et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a model free adaptive control approach for under-actuated manipulators, considering time delays, saturations, and uncertainties, and develops chaos control for learning unbiased and smooth digital control policies. Real-time experiments show that the proposed approach accurately learns long-term predictors and unbiased control policies, even in chaotic regions.

Nonsingular terminal sliding mode control for free-floating space manipulator with disturbance

Xiangyu Shao et al.

Summary: This paper presents a nonsingular terminal sliding mode controller for free-floating space manipulators to improve transient performance and reduce unexpected base motion in the presence of disturbance. A piecewise sliding surface is proposed to ensure finite-time convergence of system states, and the super-twisting algorithm is utilized for disturbance rejection. The proposed control scheme outperforms conventional controllers in disturbance rejection, overshoot reduction, and settling time improvement.

Chattering-Suppressed Sliding Mode Control for Flexible-Joint Robot Manipulators

Xin Cheng et al.

Summary: This paper investigates sliding mode tracking control and chattering suppression method for flexible-joint robot manipulators with state measurements of joint actuators. A composite chattering-suppressed sliding mode controller and a radial basis function neural network-based soft computing strategy are proposed. The proposed approach demonstrates superior dynamic performance, effectively eliminates undesirable effects of uncertainties, and reduces switching gain by 80%, while the efficiency of the extended Kalman filter is increased by about 26%.

A Finite-Time Fault-Tolerant Control Using Non-Singular Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Control and Third-Order Sliding Mode Observer for Robotic Manipulators

Van-Cuong Nguyen et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a fault-tolerant control method for robotic manipulators to deal with lumped uncertainties and faults in the absence of tachometer sensors. The third-order sliding mode observer is used to estimate system velocities and uncertainties, leading to improved control performance, reduced chattering phenomenon, and fast finite-time convergence. The stability and convergence of the proposed controller-observer technique are demonstrated using Lyapunov theory.
