Effects of in ovo feeding of disaccharide and/or methionine on hatchability, growth performance, blood hematology, and serum antioxidant parameters in geese

De Xin Dang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of in ovo injection of disaccharide (DS) and/or methionine (Met) on hatchability, growth performance, blood hematology, and serum antioxidant parameters in geese. The results showed that in ovo injection of DS increased hatching time and carcass weight, while in ovo injection of Met increased hatching time and carcass indexes. Furthermore, the combination of DS and Met injection had a synergistic effect on hatching time and post-hatching body weight and average daily gain in geese.

The Potential of a Protein Model Synthesized Absent of Methionine

Ronald J. Savino et al.

Summary: Methionine, traditionally considered an essential amino acid only in protein synthesis initiation, has been found to play a crucial role in antioxidant defense, stability, and cell/protein activity modulation. Recent studies suggest that cysteine, another sulfur-containing amino acid with similar hydrophobicity to methionine, may be able to substitute methionine in all functions outside of protein synthesis initiation without significant impact on cell and protein function. Additionally, alternative mechanisms for protein synthesis initiation that bypass the requirement for methionine have been discovered.

The effect of different dietary ratios of lysine, arginine and methionine on protein nitration and oxidation reactions in turkey tissues and DNA

J. Jankowski et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of different levels of Arg and Met in diets on the antioxidant defense system and disorders resulting from oxidation and nitration in turkeys. It was found that the ratios of Arg and Met play a significant role in modulating the antioxidant status of turkeys.

Effects of free and dipeptide forms of methionine supplementation on oxidative metabolism of broilers under high temperature

T. P. Santana et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that supplementation of broiler diets with DL-methionyl-DL-methionine may help attenuate the effects of heat stress through enhanced activation of genes related to the glutathione antioxidant system. Methionine supplementation resulted in improved growth performance, decreased H/L ratio, and altered gene expression and protein processing in broilers subjected to heat stress.

Optimal methionine plus cystine requirements in diets supplemented with L-methionine in starter, grower, and finisher broilers

J. Millecam et al.

Summary: Correct supplementation of dietary amino acids, such as methionine and cystine, is crucial for supporting the exponential growth of broilers. This study aimed to investigate the optimal L-Met plus Cys requirements of broilers in different growth stages, with results showing the importance of L-Met plus Cys supplementation in the starter and grower phases. The linear broken line model showed the best fit, and the optimal levels of L-Met plus Cys were found to be 0.69%, 0.66%, and 0.62% for birds in the starter, grower, and finisher phases, respectively.

Dietary supplementation of methionine mitigates oxidative stress in broilers under high stocking density

Z. Q. Miao et al.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the potential of dietary methionine supplementation in alleviating intestinal oxidative injury in broilers under high stocking density. Results showed that supplementation of 0.40% to 0.50% methionine helped decrease mortality rates in broilers under high stocking density. High stocking density led to reduced feed intake, daily weight gain, and increased oxidative stress markers, which were alleviated by additional methionine supplementation. The study suggests that 0.40% to 0.45% methionine supplementation can effectively mitigate oxidative stress in broilers under high stocking density conditions.

The effects of vitamin C and methionine hydroxy analog supplementation on performance, blood parameters, liver enzymes, thyroid hormones, antioxidant activity of blood plasma, intestine morphology, and HSP70 gene expression of broilers under heat stress

Mahsa Erfani et al.

Summary: The use of vitamin C and methionine hydroxy analog (MHA) was effective in reducing the negative effects of heat stress in broilers, as shown by improvements in blood glucose levels, reduction in LDL concentrations, and differences in liver enzyme concentrations and antioxidant activity compared to control. Additionally, T4 concentrations and intestinal villi dimensions were significantly increased in all experimental treatments compared to the control, while HSP70 gene expression was significantly reduced across all treatments.
