Grain yield and leaf gas exchange in upland NERICA rice under repeated cycles of water deficit at reproductive growth stage

Sakariyawo Olalekan Suleiman et al.

Summary: This study found that under repeated cycles of water deficit at reproductive stage, drought-tolerant rice varieties NERICA 4 and 7 exhibited higher relative water content, stomatal conductance, and leaf photosynthetic rates compared to the drought-susceptible variety IR 64. Additionally, NERICA 4 and 7 also had significantly higher grain yield than IR 64.

Plant hormone regulation of abiotic stress responses

Rainer Waadt et al.

Summary: Plant hormones play important roles in abiotic stress responses, regulating gene expression and plant development to adapt and tolerate environmental stresses such as drought and high temperature. Understanding these mechanisms is of great significance for agricultural applications.

Alternative fertilizer and irrigation practices improve rice yield and resource use efficiency by regulating source-sink relationships

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that improved cultivation practices in paddy rice can increase grain yield and resource use efficiency by enhancing the characteristics of leaf and root source and grain sink. These practices led to increases in spikelet number, shoot and root biomasses, leaf area index, grain weight-leaf ratio, leaf N content, and leaf photosynthetic rate, as well as the activities of root spikelets. The results suggest that optimizing source-sink relationships is crucial for achieving high yield and resource use efficiency.

Alternate wetting and drying irrigation combined with the proportion of polymer-coated urea and conventional urea rates increases grain yield, water and nitrogen use efficiencies in rice

Weiyang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study shows that the adoption of an appropriate proportion of PCU and CU rates under an alternate wetting and moderate drying irrigation regime can synergistically increase grain yield and resource use efficiency in rice by enhancing root and shoot growth, increasing nitrogen use efficiency, and optimizing biological processes.
