The Effects of Payment for Environmental Services on Environmental Improvement and Poverty Reduction: A Meta-Regression Analysis

Shouwu Jing et al.

Summary: This paper uses a meta-regression analysis method to study the effects of payments for environmental services (PES) projects on environmental quality improvement and poverty reduction. The findings show that PES projects based on private ownership rights are more conducive to poverty reduction and environmental improvement. If the country is a buyer of a PES project, it is more likely to achieve the effects of environmental enhancement and poverty alleviation. PES projects based on local conditions can also achieve a win-win situation for the two effects, and the effects are more effective as policy implementation time is extended.

Evaluating the water-saving and wastewater-reducing effects of water rights trading pilots: Evidence from a quasi-natural experiment

Minzhe Du et al.

Summary: Water rights trading is a market mechanism that promotes the conservation, protection, and optimal allocation of water resources. This study finds that water rights trading pilots have good environmental governance effects on water-saving and wastewater-reducing, but there is no spatial spillover effect and the long-term dynamic effects are more prominent in reducing sewage discharge than water-saving.
