Rapid linear transport infrastructure development in the Carpathians: A major threat to the integrity of ecological connectivity for large carnivores

Cristian-Remus Papp et al.

Summary: The development of sustainable transport is a key challenge in central and south-eastern European countries, where there is a need for cross-sectoral cooperation between the transport development and nature conservation sectors. However, these countries lack understanding and implementation of ecological connectivity. To address this issue, a set of recommendations is proposed, including improvement of legislation, development of ecological corridor methodologies, and stakeholder engagement.

Advancing avian road ecology research through systematic review

Christopher Johnson et al.

Summary: Linear transport infrastructure has important impacts on wildlife and landscape processes, particularly on birdlife. Factors such as habitat quality, species-specific traits, traffic noise, and infrastructure are identified to influence birds near roads. While early research focused on traffic noise as the main selective force, recent studies suggest that habitat quality and infrastructure play a bigger role. However, existing literature has limitations in data collection, confounding variable management, inclusion of vehicle-free environments, experimental timeframes, and methodologies susceptible to bias.

The Impact of High-Speed Rails on Urban Consumption-From the Perspective of Local-Adjacent Effect

Wendi Cai et al.

Summary: This study explores the impact of high-speed railways on urban consumption from a spatial perspective and analyzes the spatial spillover effect of high-speed railways on urban consumption by building a spatial econometric model. The findings reveal that the high-speed railway network has a positive effect on local urban consumption and acts on cities in neighboring areas through a spatial spillover effect.

High-Speed Rail Opening and Green Innovation-Evidence From China

Xiaolin Yu et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between the opening of high-speed rail and urban green innovation in China. It finds that high-speed rail significantly promotes urban green innovation, especially in non-resource-based cities. The impact mechanism of high-speed rail on urban green innovation mainly comes from the flow of innovative personnel and capital, as well as local government strategies to strengthen environmental regulations and improve regional advantages.

Quantification of emission variability for off-road equipment in China based on real-world measurements

Kaili Pang et al.

Summary: This study aims to quantify the variability in off-road equipment emissions using a portable measurement system. Results showed significant variability in emissions, highlighting the need for localized measurements for accuracy in emission inventory. Emission factors derived from this study exhibited larger variability compared to existing emission guidelines, emphasizing the importance of considering equipment types and operations in emission inventory and control strategy development.
