Determination of some heavy metals levels in the meat of animal species (sheep, beef, turkey, and ostrich) and carcinogenic health risk assessment in Kurdistan province in the west of Iran

Mahdieh Raeeszadeh et al.

Summary: The accumulation of heavy metals in food due to industrialization poses a potential threat to public health. This study assessed the concentrations of heavy metals in meat from various farm animal species in Sanandaj, Iran. The results showed that lead, cadmium, arsenic, zinc, copper, chromium, and nickel exceeded the maximum permissible limits. Monitoring and reducing heavy metal pollution in meat is crucial for public health.

Tissue Bioaccumulation and Toxicopathological Effects of Cadmium and Its Dietary Amelioration in Poultry-a Review

Indrajit Kar et al.

Summary: Cadmium is considered one of the most toxic heavy metals, continuously discharged into the environment through human activities and natural sources, leading to metabolic, structural, and functional changes in poultry organs and impacting growth, egg laying performance, and biological accumulation. Changes in tissue microstructures and oxidative stress at the cellular level caused by Cd exposure can result in cell death and histopathological alterations.

The modulatory potential of herbal antioxidants against oxidative stress and heavy metal pollution: plants against environmental oxidative stress

Navid Omidifar et al.

Summary: Free radicals, particularly ROS, play a significant role in oxidative stress in humans, impacting lipids, proteins, and DNA. Heavy metals like Cd, Pb, and arsenic can induce oxidative stress and generate ROS, affecting various body systems negatively. Antioxidants, especially herbal antioxidants, show potential in combating oxidative stress and mitigating toxicity induced by heavy metals.

Mitophagy coordinates the mitochondrial unfolded protein response to attenuate inflammation-mediated myocardial injury

Yue Wang et al.

Summary: Mitophagy and UPRmt, although slightly activated by myocardial stress, work together to maintain mitochondrial performance and protect against inflammation-related myocardial injury. Mitophagy modulation of UPRmt could be a potential therapeutic strategy for myocardial stress.
