Ecological status of fish fauna from Razim Lake and the adjacent area, the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, Romania

Aurel Nastase et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the ecological status of fish fauna in Razim Lake, which has transitioned from a brackish water body to a freshwater lake. The study found that the siltation and organic deposits have intensified in the lake, leading to changes in fish species composition. In 2020, three different sampling methods were used to collect fish, and the ecological indicators graded the lake's water quality as moderate according to the Water Framework Directive of the European Union. Overall, the study highlights the importance of monitoring and understanding the ecological changes in Razim Lake.

Invasive Alien Species of Benthic Macroinvertebrates and Fish in the Bulgarian Sector of the Danube River-Results of the Joint Danube Survey 4 (JDS4)

Teodora Trichkova et al.

Summary: This study assessed the status of aquatic invasive alien species (IAS) in the Bulgarian section of the Danube River, its tributaries, and surrounding standing water bodies. The results revealed the presence of various IAS, such as crayfish, mussels, and fish, with varying degrees of contamination in different water bodies. The study highlights the importance of considering IAS in evaluating the ecological status and potential of water bodies.

Comparison of the Genetic Structure of Invasive Bigheaded Carp (Hypophthalmichthys spp.) Populations in Central-European Lacustrine and Riverine Habitats

Tamas Molnar et al.

Summary: The genetic structures of bigheaded carp populations in Lake Balaton and the Tisza River in Hungary differ, with the lake population being more genetically diverse with hybrid and silver carp individuals, while the river population consists only of silver carps. The mitochondrial sequences found in both populations originated from the Yangtze River, suggesting potential invasive behavior in the river population.
