Locust bean gum-polyvinyl alcohol hydrogels: Synthesis, characterization, swelling behaviors, and mathematical models

Summary: LBG/PVA hydrogels were synthesized without toxic crosslinking agents, showing pH and temperature-responsive behavior. The hydrogels exhibited a maximum swelling ratio at 37 degrees C and non-Fickian diffusion dominated the swelling process. The Elmas model had better fits at 277 K and 298 K, while the Peppas model performed better at 310 K, indicating their potential as biomaterials for drug delivery applications.

Mechanism and Application of Chitosan and Its Derivatives in Promoting Permeation in Transdermal Drug Delivery Systems: A Review

Summary: This paper reviewed the mechanisms and applications of chitosan and its derivatives in transdermal drug delivery. The permeation-promoting mechanisms, such as changing the structure of stratum corneum proteins and affecting intercellular lipids, were summarized. Various transdermal preparations containing chitosan and its derivatives, including nanoparticles and liposomes, were also discussed. Chitosan and its derivatives have excellent permeability-promoting property, good biocompatibility, and biodegradability, making them ideal materials for local transdermal drug delivery.

Comparing Peak Burn Injury Times and Characteristics in Australia and New Zealand

Summary: Burns are a significant cause of illness and death globally. Understanding the timing and causes of burns, as well as the differences between countries, can help in prevention efforts. This study analyzed data from the Burns Registry of Australia and New Zealand to review burn injuries from July 2009 to June 2021. It found that the majority of injuries occurred during specific peak times, with scalds being the most common cause, occurring between 6 PM to 7 PM in Australia and 5 PM to 6 PM in New Zealand.

The epidemiological characteristic and trends of burns globally

Summary: Globally, the rates of burn incidence, DALYs, and mortality, as well as the number of burn DALYs and death cases, will continue to decrease. However, there is an increasing tendency in the number of new burn cases globally. The EAPCs of burns in incidence, DALYs, and deaths show that the burden of burns is decreasing in most regions. The EAPCs also indicate that the prevention of burns depends not only on health spending per capita but also on the education level per capita and healthcare system performance. Higher health spending does not necessarily correspond to a higher UHC index; high efficiency in translating health spending into individuals' health gains is important.

Electrospun Polycaprolactone (PCL) Degradation: An In Vitro and In Vivo Study

Amphiphilic Alkylated Pectin Hydrogels for Enhanced Topical Delivery of Fusidic Acid: Formulation and In Vitro Investigation

Summary: Hydrogels made of alkylated pectin have shown promise in topical drug distribution. The alkylated pectin hydrogels exhibited lower swelling percentage and slower release of fusidic acid compared to native pectin hydrogels. Higher pH enhanced the swelling percentage and drug release. In vitro experiments demonstrated that alkylated pectin hydrogels facilitated a 1.5-fold higher rate of fusidic acid penetration through the membrane compared to native pectin hydrogels.
