Thickness-Independent Measurement of Grain Moisture Content by Attenuation and Corrected Phase Shift of Microwave Signals at Multiple Optimized Frequencies

Jinyang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the real-time acquisition of moisture content (MC) in grains using microwave free-space transmission measurements, overcoming the challenge of phase-shift ambiguity caused by sample thickness exceeding the wavelength. A prediction model based on microwave characteristics and sample thickness achieved thickness-independent MC measurement, with the support vector machine model showing the best performance. The findings of this study have important implications for real-time acquisition of reliable MC information in food processing and agriculture-related industries.

Determination of Flowing Grain Moisture Contents by Machine Learning Algorithms Using Free Space Measurement Data

Enes Yigit et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new method to determine the moisture content of flowing grain in real time during the loading processes by using machine learning algorithms. A free-space electromagnetic measurement setup is constructed to measure the reflection and transmission coefficients of different grain types. The results show that different machine learning algorithms perform differently in predicting the moisture content for different grain types.
