Can environmental protection tax aggravate illegal pollution discharge of heavy polluting enterprises?

Juan Lu

Summary: This paper examines the impact of environmental protection tax (EPT) on the illegal emission behaviors of heavy polluting enterprises. The results show that EPT can inhibit illegal emissions by increasing innovation, environmental responsibility performance, and environmental penalty cost, but worsen illegal emissions by increasing environmental costs and environmental corruption. The study also finds that the effects of pollutant pricing on illegal emissions vary.

The Influence of the Policy of Replacing Environmental Protection Fees with Taxes on Enterprise Green Innovation-Evidence from China's Heavily Polluting Industries

Suyu Huang et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the impact of replacing environmental protection fees with taxes on enterprise green innovation using Chinese A-share listed companies as the sample. The research findings suggest that the policy significantly improves green innovation and R&D efficiency in heavily polluting industries. Furthermore, large enterprises and private enterprises focus more on improving green innovation technology. Additionally, it is found that senior executives' academic research experience can promote green innovation and improve R&D efficiency.

Can energy saving and emission reduction demonstration city selection actually contribute to pollution abatement in China?

Zilong Wang et al.

Summary: The selection of National Comprehensive Demonstration City of Energy Saving and Emission Reduction Fiscal Policy is an important policy that significantly reduces urban pollutant emissions. The effect of the policy increases in the short term but decreases gradually in the long term, mainly driven by innovation and reducing energy intensity, with more significant effects in cities with higher levels of economic development.

Does regional planning policy of Yangtze River Delta improve green technology innovation? Evidence from a quasi-natural experiment in China

Hong Xu et al.

Summary: The implementation of the Regional Planning of Yangtze River Delta significantly promotes regional green technology innovation, and the policy effect is growing stronger year by year. There is significant regional heterogeneity in the incentive effect of green technology innovation in regional planning, with cities of larger scale, higher human capital level, and lower resource dependence showing more obvious policy effects. Regional planning promotes green technological innovation by optimizing industrial structure, reducing FDI, and increasing R&D investment.
