Synthesis of WS2 by Chemical Vapor Deposition: Role of the Alumina Crucible

Neileth Stand et al.

Summary: The role of alumina crucible in the growth of tungsten disulfide under atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition was investigated. It was found that the synthesis and properties of the material depend on the number of growth cycles, with the best conditions observed in the first three cycles. However, the quality of the synthesized material decreased in the fourth cycle and beyond, possibly due to an increase in defect density.

Luminescence enhancement and Raman characterization of defects in WS2 monolayers treated with low-power N2 plasma

Andre do Nascimento Barbosa et al.

Summary: In this study, WS2 monolayers were treated with low-power N-2 plasma for different periods of time, and their properties were studied using various techniques. The results showed that short treatment times increased the photoluminescence signal, while longer exposure quenched it. Raman spectra indicated that the treatment did not cause significant changes in peak positions, and XPS revealed the presence of N impurities in the lattice.

Robust and High Photoluminescence in WS2 Monolayer through In Situ Defect Engineering

Qilong Cui et al.

Summary: An in situ defect engineering strategy was reported to reduce the impact of intrinsic sulfur vacancy on tungsten disulfide (WS2) monolayer, resulting in oxygen doped WS2 monolayer with significantly improved optical properties and high PLQY which surpasses mechanically exfoliated counterparts. The method also provides materials with superior environment stability, with the high PLQY lasting up to 3 months under ambient conditions. Insights from first-principle calculations indicate that the enhancement mechanism involves the suppression of nonradiative recombination and conversion from trion to neutral, with excellent stability attributed to repaired saturated coordination bonds at sulfur vacancy sites.

Chemical Vapor Deposition Growth of Two-Dimensional Compound Materials: Controllability, Material Quality, and Growth Mechanism

Lei Tang et al.

Summary: 2D compound materials have great potential in various applications, and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) shows promise in their preparation, although challenges in growth mechanism and quality control remain. Emerging methods and key technology parameters are crucial for improving the quality and controllability of CVD-grown 2D compound materials.
