Summary: Despite lacking significant correlation with different liver tissue lesions of MAFLD, chemerin levels were significantly higher in patients with MAFLD. Among different subtypes of MAFLD, NAFL patients had higher chemerin levels compared to healthy controls, while there was no significant difference in chemerin levels between NASH patients and controls. Chemerin might be used as a potential biomarker to monitor the development and progression of MAFLD in the future.

Anat Yaskolka Meir et al.

Summary: The study found that a green-Mediterranean diet (MED) is more effective in reducing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), with a greater decrease in intrahepatic fat (IHF) content, by further restricting red/processed meat and increasing intake of green plants and polyphenols. This healthy dietary strategy shows promising results in reducing IHF and decreasing NAFLD prevalence.

Acute Elevated Resistin Exacerbates Mitochondrial Damage and Aggravates Liver Steatosis Through AMPK/PGC-1α Signaling Pathway in Male NAFLD Mice

Acute elevated resistin levels can lead to changes in mitochondrial morphology, lipid accumulation, and inflammation promotion. Maintenance of mitochondrial homeostasis may be crucial in preventing resistin-induced NAFLD aggravation.

Chemerin/CMKLR1 ameliorates nonalcoholic steatohepatitis by promoting autophagy and alleviating oxidative stress through the JAK2-STAT3 pathway

Xiuqin An et al.

Summary: Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a global public health challenge due to overwhelming oxidative stress and impaired autophagy. Chemerin, an adipokine, has been found to significantly ameliorate NASH by reducing inflammation, insulin resistance, and leptin resistance, while also improving liver lesions. Its effects involve regulating antioxidant defenses, promoting autophagy, and increasing JAK2-STAT3 phosphorylation. These findings suggest that chemerin may be a promising therapeutic target for NASH treatment.

Adipocyte Fatty Acid Binding Protein Promotes the Onset and Progression of Liver Fibrosis via Mediating the Crosstalk between Liver Sinusoidal Endothelial Cells and Hepatic Stellate Cells

Xiaoping Wu et al.

Summary: Liver fibrosis results in significant changes in the liver microenvironment, which promotes disease progression. The study demonstrates that increased expression of adipocyte fatty acid binding protein (A-FABP) in liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) plays a crucial role in promoting liver fibrosis in mice. A-FABP activates signaling pathways that lead to liver fibrosis progression, suggesting that targeting A-FABP may be a potential therapeutic approach against liver fibrosis.
