Prediction of one- and two-year mortality after transcatheter aortic valve implantation: proposal of a fast sum-score system integrating a novel biomarker of cardiac extracellular matrix accumulation and fibrosis

Laura Baez et al.

Summary: The Jena Mortality Score (JMS), based on parameters including atrial fibrillation, clinical frailty scale, and Tissue-Inhibitor of Metalloproeinase-1, can predict long-term mortality risk in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). The score shows higher survival rates in the low-risk group.

Epigenetic Mechanism and Therapeutic Implications of Atrial Fibrillation

Dan Li et al.

Summary: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common arrhythmia affecting 1.5-2.0% of the global population. Conventional therapies have not effectively addressed AF recurrence. Recent research has highlighted the potential role of epigenetics in the initiation and management of AF.

Atrial Fibrillation and Depression: A Bibliometric Analysis From 2001 to 2021

Yuzhen Ai et al.

Summary: Research on atrial fibrillation (AF) and depression is still in its early stages, and future efforts should focus on strengthening cooperation and exchanges between countries and institutions. Current research has highlighted the impact of depression on AF prevalence and mortality, depression on AF ablation, and the impact of depression on anticoagulation treatment in AF. The research frontier lies in stroke prevention (including anticoagulant therapy), which may continue to be a focal point for future studies.

Total NT-proBNP, a novel biomarker related to recurrent atrial fibrillation

Lidia Staszewsky et al.

Summary: Novel circulating biomarkers may help in understanding AF mechanisms. The study found total NT-proBNP, NT-proBNP, Ang2, and BMP10 were strongly associated with ongoing AF and predictive of recurrent AF and CV hospitalization. The association of total NT-proBNP with AF first recurrence was similar to NT-proBNP, suggesting no influence of glycosylation.

Catheter ablation or medical therapy to delay progression of atrial fibrillation: the randomized controlled atrial fibrillation progression trial (ATTEST)

Karl-Heinz Kuck et al.

Summary: The study indicates that radiofrequency ablation is more effective than antiarrhythmic drug therapy in delaying the progression from paroxysmal to persistent atrial fibrillation. Patients aged 65 and above may have an increased risk of progressing to persistent atrial fibrillation.

Atrial fibrosis underlying atrial fibrillation (Review)

Chang Yi Li et al.

Summary: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is closely linked with fibrosis, which is a key factor in structural changes that impact the occurrence and persistence of AF. Despite the complexity of this process, advancements in technology now allow for non-invasive evaluation of fibrosis, facilitating the selection of personalized treatment strategies.

A Review of the Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Cardiac Fibrosis and Atrial Fibrillation

Grazyna Sygitowicz et al.

Summary: The cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying atrial fibrosis are complex, involving various signaling pathways and molecular factors. The Ang-II-MAPK and TGFβ1-Smad signaling pathways are identified as playing key roles in regulating atrial fibrotic remodeling.
