Lecithin-based nanoemulsions of traditional herbal wound healing agents and their effect on human skin cells

Claudia Vater et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that lecithin-based nanoemulsions are skin-friendly drug carrier systems and may also be suitable for wound healing. Incorporation of betulin-enriched extract from birch bark and purified spruce balm into NEs positively influence cell viability, proliferation, and wound closure. NEs with these natural wound healing agents displayed better wound closure rates compared to control formulations in in vitro studies.

Recent developments in industrial applications of nanoemulsions

Yesim Ozogul et al.

Summary: Nanotechnology is being used in various industries to improve the quality, safety, shelf-life, and performance of commercial products. Nanoemulsions, which are unstable colloidal dispersions, have unique properties that make them suitable for applications in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, nutraceutical, and food industries. They can enhance the water-dispersibility, stability, and bioavailability of hydrophobic compounds.

Hyaluronan interactions with cationic surfactants-Insights from fluorescence resonance energy transfer and anisotropy techniques

Petra Holinkova et al.

Summary: This study investigated the interactions between hyaluronan and micelles formed by cationic surfactants using fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). The results showed that the addition of hyaluronan led to the formation of a pearl necklace structure with smaller micelles compared to pure surfactant. This research is of significance for the formulation of drug delivery systems.

Optimization of nanoemulsified systems containing lamellar phases for co-delivery of celecoxib and endoxifen to the skin aiming for breast cancer chemoprevention and treatment

Gabriela Mojeiko et al.

Summary: In this study, an innovative nanoemulsified system was proposed for the local-transdermal co-delivery of celecoxib and endoxifen as a potential strategy for breast cancer prevention. The system showed enhanced penetration of the drugs into the skin and demonstrated synergistic anticancer effects in cell experiments.

Hyaluronic acid nanoemulsions improve piplartine cytotoxicity in 2D and 3D breast cancer models and reduce tumor development after intraductal administration

Vanessa F. C. Dartora et al.

Summary: In this study, nanoemulsions modified with chitosan or hyaluronic acid were evaluated for their cytotoxic effects in breast cancer models. The results showed that nanoencapsulation improved the cytotoxicity of piplartine, possibly through more efficient drug delivery. In an in vivo model, piplartine-loaded nanoemulsion administered through intraductal delivery successfully inhibited breast tumor development.

Microemulsion for Prolonged Release of Fenretinide in the Mammary Tissue and Prevention of Breast Cancer Development

Giovanna Cassone Salata et al.

Summary: The study developed a nonaqueous microemulsion capable of forming a depot in mammary tissue for prolonged release of fenretinide to prevent breast cancer development. The microemulsion released 30% of fenretinide in vitro and reduced cell migration and spheroid growth in cell cultures. In a preclinical model, microemulsion administration significantly reduced breast tumor incidence and increased type II collagen expression, showing potential as a preventive therapy for breast cancer.
