Neuroprotective Effects of Oligosaccharides From Periplaneta Americana on Parkinson's Disease Models In Vitro and In Vivo

Miao-Miao Liu et al.

Summary: Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease with limited treatment options. This study found that Periplaneta Americana oligosaccharides (OPA) have anti-inflammatory effects and can protect cells and mouse models from neurological damage caused by Parkinson's disease. OPA shows potential as an economic and safe therapeutic option for Parkinson's disease.

Roles of reactive oxygen species, mitochondrial membrane potential, and p53 in evodiamine-induced apoptosis and G2/M arrest of human anaplastic thyroid carcinoma cells

Chih-Chiang Chien et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the anti-cancer effects of evodiamine (EVO) on human anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) cells, with the endogenous p53 status affecting the sensitivity of cells to EVO-induced apoptosis and G2/M arrest. Mechanistically, EVO induces apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in cells by increasing p53 and downstream proteins, disrupting mitochondrial membrane potential, and increasing intracellular peroxide production.

Impact of STAT Proteins in Tumor Progress and Therapy Resistance in Advanced and Metastasized Prostate Cancer

Celina Ebersbach et al.

Summary: Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men and is a leading cause of death. Signal transducers and activators of transcription (STATs) play crucial roles in therapeutic resistance and metastasis of prostate cancer. Different members of the STAT family have distinct functions in prostate cancer, with STAT1, STAT3, and STAT5 associated with therapy resistance, and STAT3, STAT5, and STAT6 linked to metastasis. Although inhibitors targeting STATs have been tested in clinical trials for prostate cancer, they have not been successful.
