Characteristics of Carbapenemase-Producing Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolated in the Intensive Care Unit of the Largest Tertiary Hospital in Bangladesh

ESBL Producing Escherichia coli in Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants: An Invisible Threat to Public Health in Rohingya Camps, Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and molecular characterization of ESBL-producing E. coli in faecal sludge samples collected from faecal sludge treatment plants in Rohingya camps in Bangladesh. The results showed that the faecal sludge samples could be a potential source for spreading multidrug-resistant pathogenic E. coli, posing a severe health threat to the Rohingya individuals living in overcrowded camps. Genetic analysis and plasmid profiling revealed the presence of ESBL genes, virulence genes, and antibiotic resistance patterns in the isolates, highlighting the importance of proper treatment of human faecal sludge to prevent environmental and public health hazards.
