Grain boundary enriched CuO nanobundle for efficient non-invasive glucose sensors/fuel cells

Summary: In this study, CuO nanobundles with high density and homogenous grain boundaries were prepared using a cascade-assembled strategy. The role of grain boundaries (GBs) in glucose oxidation reaction (GOR) activity was thoroughly investigated, showing that GBs contribute to faster glucose mass transfer and lower glucose oxidation barriers. This study sheds new light on the importance of GBs in optimizing GOR catalyst nanostructures.

Integration of ultrafine CuO nanoparticles with two-dimensional MOFs for enhanced electrochemical CO2 reduction to ethylene

Summary: To facilitate the electrochemical reduction of CO2 to fuels and valuable chemicals, the development of active, low-cost, and selective catalysts is crucial. In this study, a novel catalyst consisting of CuO nanoparticles anchored on Cu-MOF nanosheets was reported. The catalyst exhibited efficient CO2 conversion to ethylene with high faradaic efficiency and demonstrated stability and high power conversion efficiency. The excellent electrocatalytic performance was attributed to the interface between CuO and Cu-MOF and the unique structure of Cu-MOF.

Size-controlled, single-crystal CuO nanosheets and the resulting polyethylene-carbon nanotube nanocomposite as antimicrobial materials

Summary: In this study, size-controlled single-crystal copper oxide nanosheets (CuO NSs) were fabricated using a microwave-assisted chemical method, and their nanocomposites with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) were further reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) of oil fly ash. The produced CuO NSs and their polymer nanocomposites exhibited antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, and yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, with significant microbial-growth inhibition observed. Additionally, the mechanical properties of HDPE were enhanced by 20% by adding 1 wt% of CuO NSs and 0.5 wt% of CNTs.

In-situ transformation obtained defect-rich porous hollow CuO@CoZn-LDH nanoarrays as self-supported electrode for highly efficient overall water splitting

Summary: A novel strategy was proposed to fabricate dual-metal zeolitic imidazolate framework (CoZn-ZIF) nanocrystals on Cu(OH)(2) nanowires, leading to the formation of highly ordered CuO@CoZn-LDH nanoarrays with defect-rich porous surface for efficient water splitting. The catalyst showed excellent activity with low overpotentials for oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions in alkaline media, and demonstrated a low cell voltage for overall water splitting, comparable to commercial catalysts. This work provides a new perspective for designing and fabricating advanced multifunctional electrocatalysts for electrochemical energy devices.

Novel SnO2@ZIF-8/gC3N4 nanohybrids for excellent electrochemical performance towards sensing of p-nitrophenol

Summary: A novel synthetic strategy was proposed to prepare engineered SnO2@ZIF-8/gC3N4 nanohybrids for electrochemical sensing of p-nitrophenol (p-NP). The developed nanohybrid sensor exhibited excellent electrochemical performance with a detection limit of 0.565 μM and a sensitivity of 2.63 μAcm-2 μM-1. Additionally, the sensor showed remarkable selectivity in the presence of common interferents and consistent sensing response for up to 30 days.

Summary: The study investigates the synthesis of CuO nanoparticles using Monsonia Burkeana plant and their successful application in photocatalytic and antibacterial activities. The results demonstrate excellent degradation of dyes and inhibition of bacterial growth, indicating the potential for these green synthesized materials in pollution treatment and pharmaceutical degradation.
