Development and Characterization of Pyriproxyfen-Loaded Nanoemulsion for Housefly Control: Improving Activity, Reducing Toxicity, and Protecting Ecological Environment

Jianguo Feng et al.

Summary: Nanoemulsion is an effective way to use pesticides efficiently, safely, and in an environmentally friendly manner. By investigating the influence of emulsifier type, dosage, and emulsifying process, an optimal nanoemulsion formula loaded with pyriproxyfen was obtained. The nanoemulsions showed durable control effects, high efficacy against insects, low toxicity to earthworms, and low cytotoxicity, indicating potential for reducing environmental pollution from water-insoluble pesticides.

Bioactivity of two marine algae extracts and their synthesized silver nanoparticles as safe controls against Musca domestica housefly

Jazem A. Mahyoub

Summary: The study found that silver nanoparticles synthesized from marine algae are effective against housefly larvae. A. amadalpha extract mixed with silver nanoparticles showed better control, while C. edule alone provided moderate control.

Dimeric Her2-specific affibody mediated cisplatin-loaded nanoparticles for tumor enhanced chemo-radiotherapy

Haijun Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel approach for translational tumor theranostics by integrating Her2 targeting, diagnosis, and RT sensitization into a single platform using nanocarriers. The developed nanoparticles demonstrated biodegradability and localized production of O-2 in a simulated tumor microenvironment, efficiently inhibited tumor growth, and improved radiosensitization. The incorporation of Z(Her2) endowed these nanoparticles with Her2-dependent binding ability and effective tumor homing and penetration, highlighting their potential for precise enhanced chemo-radiotherapy of Her2-positive ovarian tumors.

Simple Osthole/Nanocarrier Pesticide Efficiently Controls Both Pests and Diseases Fulfilling the Need of Green Production of Strawberry

Shuo Yan et al.

Summary: A green pesticide nanocarrier, synthesized using star polymer, successfully delivered nano-sized osthole into insect cells for enhanced cytotoxicity, improving control efficacy against strawberry pests and diseases without impacting fruit quality and nontarget predators. The formulation represents a significant breakthrough in sustainable agriculture by simultaneously controlling plant pests and diseases.

Self-Assembled Degradable Nanogels Provide Foliar Affinity and Pinning for Pesticide Delivery by Flexibility and Adhesiveness Adjustment

Jian Luo et al.

Summary: By utilizing polyethylene glycol and 4,4-methylenediphenyl diisocyanate as hydrophilic soft and hydrophobic hard segments for polymer self-assembly, a nano delivery system for pesticides has been developed to improve efficacy, stability, and environmental friendliness. The molecular structure of the soft segment can be modified to adjust the performance of the nanocarriers, enhancing their washing resistance and retention rate significantly, while their degradability helps reduce pollution.

Towards an odour-baited trap to control Musca sorbens, the putative vector of trachoma

Ailie Robinson et al.

Summary: Musca sorbens is a synanthropic filth fly that aggressively attacks people to feed from mucous membranes of the eyes, nose or mouth, from open sores, or from sweat. Control options are limited but a homemade trap design using The Buzz lure has been found to be the most effective in trapping M. sorbens. Further studies are needed to assess the impact of this trap on local fly populations and the transmission of trachoma.
