Fertility Histories and Heart Disease in Later Life in China

Yuanyang Wu et al.

Summary: Based on life course theories, this study examined the association between parity and heart disease among older people in China. The findings showed that having more than three children or more than two boys increased the risk of heart disease. This association was more prominent in rural areas. Early childbearing and late age at first birth were also associated with a higher risk of heart disease. The study suggests the importance of considering the health implications of high parity and providing postpartum support and chronic disease prevention for parents. The elderly in rural areas should also pay attention to heart disease and engage in regular physical exercise and examinations.

The fear for adverse bleeding and cardiovascular events in hemophilia patients using (non-)selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: A systematic review reporting on safety

E. D. P. van Bergen et al.

Summary: (Non-)selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly used for musculoskeletal pain. These drugs have potential joint protective effects and could be valuable for hemophilia patients in developing countries and those with a high rate of opioid poisoning. However, concerns about adverse bleeding and cardiovascular events restrict their prescription in this population. A systematic review of studies conducted until March 2021 found that most studies did not show a significant risk of bleeding or cardiovascular events associated with the use of (non-)selective NSAIDs. However, there were limitations in some studies and a lack of research on cardiovascular events. Further studies with long-term follow-up involving larger patient populations, including older patients, are needed to confirm the safety of these drugs.

Prevalence, risk factors, and management practices of primary dysmenorrhea among young females

Samar Karout et al.

Summary: Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) is a common gynecological condition among young females, with a prevalence of 80.9% among university students in Lebanon. Risk factors associated with PD include heavy menstrual flow, family history of PD, and history of weight loss attempt. Despite most PD patients receiving medication for management, only 36.9% sought formal medical advice.

Sex and Response to Cardioprotective Conditioning Maneuvers

Giulia Querio et al.

Summary: Ischemic heart disease is a multifactorial condition with genetic, dietary, and lifestyle factors involved, its prevention through cardioprotective maneuvers is crucial. Studies have shown that sex-dependent responses play a crucial role in the outcomes of cardioprotective procedures, with female sexual hormones playing an important role in protecting against cardiac insults.

Time-of-day changes in physician clinical decision making: A retrospective study

Peter Trinh et al.

Summary: This study found significant variations in the number of diagnostic tests ordered by physicians at different times of the day, suggesting that time may influence physician behavior and processes. Most physicians ordered more tests on average in the first hour of the day, but there was substantial intra-clinic heterogeneity.
