Rapid Antiretroviral Therapy Program: Development and Evaluation at a Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the Southern United States

Jesse G. O'Shea et al.

Summary: Early initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) can improve health outcomes and reduce transmission of HIV. A study conducted in a large Veterans Health Administration (VA) HIV clinic found that a protocol for rapid ART initiation led to increased viral suppression rates compared to historical controls. The study also showed significant reductions in the time from diagnosis to viral suppression with the implementation of the rapid start protocol.

Recruitment and Retention of Women Living With HIV for Clinical Research: A Review

Kyra Jennifer Waligora Mendez et al.

Summary: Recruiting women with HIV into research is commonly done through community-based HIV clinics, with word of mouth and university HIV research centers proving to be effective. Addressing attrition early and focusing on retention from the study planning stage is crucial. Barriers to research participation for women can be overcome by implementing retention methods. Building relationships, flexibility, and using multiple methods are important for successful recruitment and retention.
