Mechanistic analysis identifying reaction pathways for rapid reductive photodebromination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers using BiVO4/BiOBr/Pd heterojunction nanocomposite photocatalyst

Edward B. Miller et al.

Summary: In this study, a nanocomposite catalyst consisting of a m-BiVO4/BiOBr heterojunction surface-decorated with Pd nanoparticles was used for the photocatalytic reductive debromination of PBDEs using visible light. The catalyst showed rapid and complete debromination of BDE-47 with a high reaction rate constant. These findings provide new insights into the degradation of common organic pollutants via sustainable methods.

Amine-Boranes as Transfer Hydrogenation and Hydrogenation Reagents: A Mechanistic Perspective

Samantha Lau et al.

Summary: This review discusses the use of H3N.BH3 and its analogues as sacrificial hydrogen donors in transfer hydrogenation reactions, distinguishing between classical TH, nonclassical TH, and hydrogenation pathways. Experimental and computational analyses can be employed to verify or discount mechanisms, displaying how the operating pathway can be disrupted by various factors, leading to nontrivial assignment of the mechanism.

Sustainable System for Hydrogenation Exploiting Energy Derived from Solar Light

Naoki Ishida et al.

Summary: The system described in the passage utilizes solar energy to capture, store, and release chemical energy for hydrogenation. Through a two-step process, solar energy is converted into chemical energy, which is then used for hydrogenation, with the advantage of easy recovery and reuse.

Selectivity of the Lindlar catalyst in alkyne semi-hydrogenation: a direct liquid-phase adsorption study

Nikolay Cherkasov et al.

Summary: The study of alkyne semi-hydrogenation over Pd and Lindlar catalyst with liquid phase adsorption revealed the presence of strongly-adsorbing alkyne and alkene sites, with DFT studies pointing to non-selective sites being low-coordination Pd atoms in the nanoparticles.

Halide Effects in BiVO4/BiOX Heterostructures Decorated with Pd Nanoparticles for Photocatalytic Degradation of Rhodamine B as a Model Organic Pollutant

Mary O. Olagunju et al.

Summary: In this study, nanoscale BiVO4/BiOX/Pd materials were successfully synthesized using a single pot approach, and the effect of halide identity on photocatalytic properties was investigated. Results showed that BiOCl and BiOBr structures exhibited enhanced reactivity compared to BiOI, with potential environmental applications demonstrated in degradation experiments using natural water samples.
