GlSwi6 Positively Regulates Cellulase and Xylanase Activities through Intracellular Ca2+ Signaling in Ganoderma lucidum

Ling-Dan Lian et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the transcription factor GlSwi6 in Ganoderma lucidum positively regulates cellulase and xylanase production and promotes their activities by regulating Ca2+ signaling. These findings provide insights for improving cellulase and xylanase activities in G. lucidum and other fungi.

Methionine and S-Adenosylmethionine Regulate Monascus Pigments Biosynthesis in Monascus purpureus

Sheng Yin et al.

Summary: The study reveals that amino acid metabolism can regulate the biosynthesis of Monascus pigments (MPs), and methionine and S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) play different roles in the regulation of MPs biosynthesis in Monascus purpureus RP2. The expression of SAM synthetase leads to an increased expression of transcriptional regulatory proteins of the MPs biosynthesis gene cluster, while the addition of SAM results in increased expression of MPs biosynthesis activators and the global regulator LaeA. These findings provide a new perspective for understanding the regulation of MPs biosynthesis in M. purpureus.

Requirement of LaeA for sporulation, pigmentation and secondary metabolism in Chaetomium globosum

Ming Cheng et al.

Summary: The global regulator LaeA plays a crucial role in governing the production of secondary metabolites in fungi. In Chaetomium globosum, CgLaeA significantly impacts secondary metabolism and fungal morphological phenotypes by regulating the expression of pathway-specific transcription factors and other global regulators. Moreover, overexpression of CglaeA can enhance the production of certain secondary metabolites.

The non-canonical functions of telomerase reverse transcriptase gene GlTert on regulating fungal growth, oxidative stress, and ganoderic acid biosynthesis in Ganoderma lucidum

Guang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the non-canonical roles of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) in Ganoderma lucidum, using RNA interference to silence the GlTert gene. The results show that GlTert plays a crucial role in fungal growth, oxidative stress response, and ganoderic acid (GA) biosynthesis in G. lucidum.

Evaluation of functional and nutritional potential of a protein concentrate from Pleurotus ostreatus mushroom

Abigail Gonzalez et al.

Summary: This study aimed to extract and characterize a protein concentrate from Pleurotus ostreatus mushroom flour, finding improved protein digestibility and the presence of potentially bioactive peptides. The methodology for protein extraction and precipitation was optimized, leading to a 78% increase in protein density. Overall, the study highlights the potential of edible mushrooms as a protein-rich and functional food alternative.
