This review provides an overview of the known structures, biological activities, and biosynthetic pathways of the tropolone sesquiterpenoid family of fungal secondary metabolites. The synthesis of this knowledge enables the revision of likely structural and stereochemical misassignments and demonstrates the division of these compounds into three main biosynthetic classes based on the stereochemistry of key biosynthetic steps.
