Methanol Dehydrogenation on Pt Electrodes: Active Sites and Role of Adsorbed Spectators Revealed through Time-Resolved ATR-SEIRAS

Laura Perez-Martinez et al.

Summary: The electrooxidation of methanol to adsorbed CO (COad) on polycrystalline Pt surfaces occurs predominantly at defect sites with (111) and (100) orientations under potentiostatic conditions. Even at low methanol concentration and sufficiently negative potential, the formation of COad is slow and can be directly determined using infrared spectroscopy.

Characterization of ultrafast processes at metal/ solution interfaces: Towards femtoelectrochemistry

Gregor Zwaschka et al.

Summary: The core of electrochemistry lies in charge transfer, which requires probing dynamics on different time scales. While conventional detection schemes are suitable for slower processes, they lack sufficient time resolution for ultrafast processes. Recent studies using ultrashort lasers have explored ultrafast dynamics at the metal/solution interface, expanding our understanding of these processes.

Electrochemical and surface enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy studies of TEMPO self-assembled monolayers

Bipinlal Unni et al.

Summary: The electron transfer kinetics of TEMPO monolayers were studied, revealing that the density of TEMPO groups is approximately 20% of a full monolayer coverage. Standard heterogeneous rate constants were extracted from SAMs of different chain lengths, and ATR-SEIRAS was used to show conformational changes induced by oxidation of the TEMPO radical.
