Enhanced performance of Bi2Te3-based thermoelectric materials by incorporating Bi2Fe4O9 magnetic nanoparticles

Xianke Wu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the thermoelectric performance of p-type Bi2Te3-based materials can be improved by incorporating Bi2Fe4O9 magnetic nanoparticles. These nanoparticles effectively scatter low-energy carriers and improve carrier quality. The synergistic effect of boundary scattering and magnetic particle scattering leads to an increase in Seebeck coefficient and a decrease in thermal conductivity. The maximum ZT value obtained is 1.1 at 393 K, which is 13% higher than the pure sample. The average ZT value of the nanocomposite consisting of Bi2Fe4O9 magnetic nanoparticles is 0.98 in the temperature range of 303-483 K, exhibiting an increase of 11%. Overall, the results indicate that magnetic nanoparticles with low saturation magnetic moment have a positive effect on the performance of thermoelectric materials.

Review of thermoelectric generation for internal combustion engine waste heat recovery

Nicolae Vlad Burnete et al.

Summary: With the growing emphasis on electrified vehicles, the use of internal combustion engines (ICEs) as the primary propulsion source is being challenged, necessitating improvements in efficiency and emissions. Recovering waste heat from the ICE can enhance overall thermal efficiency, and thermoelectric generators offer advantages such as environmental friendliness, reliability, and direct conversion of thermal energy into electrical energy. This study provides a comprehensive overview of the use of thermoelectric generators for waste heat recovery in ICEs, presenting experimental and simulation results on power output, efficiency gains, and fuel consumption reduction. It also summarizes the design considerations for the hot side heat exchanger.

Restructured single parabolic band model for quick analysis in thermoelectricity

Jianbo Zhu et al.

Summary: A direct carrier-concentration-dependent restructured SPB model is established, which eliminates the need for Fermi-Dirac integrals and Fermi level calculation, showing strong visibility and usability in experiments. The reliability of this model is verified with experimental data from TE materials, with a relative error of less than 2%, and key properties such as carrier effective mass and optimal carrier concentration are systematically investigated. This work aims to provide more convenience and accuracy for thermoelectric data analysis, as well as instructive understanding for future optimization design.
