Assessment of relation among production and reproduction traits in Sahiwal cattle at an organized herd of northern India

Poonam Ratwan et al.

Summary: The present study assessed the relationship between different production and reproduction traits in Sahiwal cattle. It was found that cows with high milk yield exhibited longer calving to first insemination interval, days open, and calving interval, confirming an antagonistic relation between production and reproduction traits. Therefore, reproduction traits should be considered alongside production traits in genetic evaluation and breeding programs for Sahiwal cattle.

Genome-Wide Association Study Identifies New Candidate Markers for Somatic Cells Score in a Local Dairy Sheep

Anna Maria Sutera et al.

Summary: The aim of the study was to identify genomic regions associated with somatic cells count (SCC) in the Valle del Belice sheep breed. Eight markers were found to be significantly associated with log-transformed SCC, with several candidate genes related to immunity system and udder conformation identified. Further studies with larger sample size or independent population are needed to confirm these results.
