Mitigating the Multicollinearity Problem and Its Machine Learning Approach: A Review

Jireh Yi-Le Chan et al.

Summary: Technological advancements have facilitated the collection of big data in various fields, leading to an increase in variables and data points. However, this also introduces the problem of multicollinearity, which can be mitigated through variable selection methods and modified estimator methods. Recent studies suggest that optimization approaches using machine learning may handle multicollinearity better than traditional statistical estimators.

A Hybrid Deep Transfer Learning of CNN-Based LR-PCA for Breast Lesion Diagnosis via Medical Breast Mammograms

Nagwan Abdel Samee et al.

Summary: One of the most promising research areas in the healthcare industry is the development of AI-based systems for breast cancer diagnosis. This study addresses two challenges in designing effective CAD systems, namely enriching the input information by generating pseudo-colored images and overcoming multicollinearity among deep features. The proposed CAD system achieves high performance accuracies of 98.60% and 98.80% using benchmark datasets INbreast and mini-MAIS, respectively, demonstrating its usefulness and reliability in breast cancer diagnosis.

Risks of feature leakage and sample size dependencies in deep feature extraction for breast mass classification

Ravi K. Samala et al.

Summary: This study examines the risk of feature leakage and its dependence on sample size when using pretrained deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) for breast mass classification. The simulation study and analysis on training and independent test sets reveal that feature leakage can lead to large generalization errors, emphasizing the importance of evaluation on unseen test cases for realistic performance assessment in clinical implementation.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
