A new approach to parameter estimation of mixture of two normal distributions

Yinan Li et al.

Summary: This article proposes improved moment and likelihood estimation methods that enhance the accuracy of parameter estimation for mixtures of two-component normal distributions. The representativeness of observed data is reinforced to improve estimation accuracy, and the penalized maximum likelihood method is revised. Bootstrap bias-corrected moment estimators are also introduced, and a sequential optimization algorithm is used to find numerical solutions. Simulation results and a real data example demonstrate that these methods effectively improve estimation accuracy and resistance.

Pulse pileup rejection methods using a two-component Gaussian Mixture Model for fast neutron detection with pulse shape discriminating scintillator

Andrew Glenn et al.

Summary: Pulse shape discriminating scintillator materials can help differentiate between pulses generated by neutrons and gammas, allowing for the identification of anomalous events and the removal of pileup events. The study found that using scores from a two-component model is effective in identifying anomalous events, and proposed a novel anomaly score denoted by G.

High Precision Numerical Computation of Principal Points for Univariate Distributions

Santanu Chakraborty et al.

Summary: In this paper, a high precision numerical method for calculating principal points and quantization errors of random variables is provided. The method is applied to different positive integer values of n for some absolutely continuous univariate distributions, with corresponding values of mean squared distances also given.
