Modeling of climate change impacts on Lake Burullus, coastal lagoon (Egypt)

A. Shalby et al.

Summary: Coastal lagoons, especially shallow ones, are highly vulnerable to climate change, particularly Sea Level Rise (SLR). Lake Burullus in Egypt, the second largest coastal lagoon, has been experiencing ecological deterioration due to anthropogenic changes. A hydro-ecological model was developed to investigate the impacts of climate change on the lake, showing an increase in water depths, temperature, and salinity. Climate change is expected to restrict the lake's ability to preserve current species, highlighting the need for urgent management plans and adaptation efforts to mitigate potential species losses.

Long-term Regional Dynamic Sea Level Changes from CMIP6 Projections

Bruno Ferrero et al.

Summary: Anthropogenic climate forcing is projected to cause global mean sea level rise in the 21st century, with regional variations across ocean basins influenced by natural internal climate variability. Analysis using single and multimodel ensembles from the CMIP6 archive under different emission scenarios shows that regions with higher signal-to-noise ratios are likely to experience sea level changes earlier, highlighting the importance of public policies towards lower emission scenarios.

Sediment dynamics and morphological evolution in the Tagus Estuary inlet

A. B. Fortunato et al.

Summary: The research analyzed the morphological evolution of the Tagus estuary inlet in the last century, proposing a new morphodynamic model to explain its dynamics, highlighting unanswered questions in the dynamics of the inlet. Through this study, it was found that a seasonal behavior of the inlet's dynamics exists, with different sediment transport patterns during winter and maritime summer, indicating a future continuation of the evolution of the inlet.

Effects of climate change and anthropogenic pressures in the water quality of a coastal lagoon (Ria Formosa, Portugal)

Marta Rodrigues et al.

Summary: Understanding the impact of climate change and anthropogenic pressures on a coastal lagoon, such as Ria Formosa, is crucial for its preservation and sustainability. A study using a 3D model showed that sea level rise and increased wastewater treatment plant outflow can affect water quality, while rising air temperature has a minor impact on water temperature. Combining these factors may result in conflicting effects on nutrient concentrations.
